Postcard FAQ's

Why are postcards popular for direct marketing?

Postcard printing is popular with direct marketing because they are less expensive to print. It is fairly inexpensive to get full color postcards on both sides. Can include images, and copy, and use them as teasers to bring customers to your store. It is also less expensive to mail postcards than any other piece of mail.

If you have a catalog- do not just simply mail it to prospects, but send them an informative card and have them contact you for a catalog if they are interested, saving money on the mailing and the catalog itself.

How do I make sure my postcard design is eye-catching?

Here are some tips on how to make sure your postcard is eye-catching, striking and most importantly, memorable. First ask yourself some questions whose answers will serve as a starting guide for your design efforts. Get ideas on what you want your postcard to look like by searching through fonts, colors and graphics. You want to be sure that your color scheme is less accidental and more deliberate; use the color wheel! And try not to use more than two or three colors in a design.

If the postcard color is so important, what are some of the things I should have in mind?

You want to be sure that your color scheme is less accidental and more deliberate; use the color wheel! And try not to use more than two or three colors in a design.

-Complements: colors opposite each other on the color wheel; blue and orange, for example.

-Monochromatic : tints and shades of the same color; lighten or darken an existing color.

- Achromatic : a color scheme using grays and blacks; although it gives off a professional look, it can seem lifeless. You may want to use this scheme and add just one color to stand out.

- Primary Colors : red, yellow and blue make up the primary colors; when in doubt, it's a good scheme to rely on.

How can I make effective use of the printed postcards?

With postcards being so easily lost or thrown in the garbage, you should really consider ways to reduce the risk of this happening. Give people a reason to hold onto your postcard or, even better, respond to it!

•  Prepaid return postage.

•  Easy-to-read large type.

•  Incentives for recipients to reply such as free gifts or drawings for prizes.

•  Include your contact information on the card.

•  Calls to action; tell the recipient what to do with the card – fill it out, send it back or redeem it for a discount.
